Kilimanjaro Update
December 3rd, 2011
I am getting deeper into the planning stages of this climb. As you have already read SGT Jacob Birkholz will be coming with me. This climb will be just 1 year after he was in Walter Reed after being evacuated from Afghanistan with near fatal injuries. We need your help to make this a reality. Please click on the green "Support me" button to make a donation, even if you only have a dollar, it helps. We are planning on attempting the 17,057 ft technical Mt Kenya before turning our focus on the 19,341 ft Kilimanjaro.

Let it be known..."SGT" Jacob Birkholz is no wounded warrior. Warriors DO NOT attempt to take their own lives, they fight for their own and the lives of others. I am POSITIVE that there were legitimate wounded warriors in Walter Reed that would have gladly taken his place and not try to kill themselves...as he so selfishly did. And his attempt was not because he witnessed the horrors of war (since he had very minimal time as a COMBAT flight medic)..it was because of rejection that he couldn't handle like a grown adult. His complete disregard for the gift of life is a slap in the face to actual warriors that have been killed fighting for their life or the life of another. Shame on you for praising his suicide attempt and misleading readers to believe he actually did something heroic. You are asking people to give you money for a person that is a coward. Shame on both of you.

The struggles we face in our lives should be our own. But every decision we make has eternal consequences . My son went from being in pain emotionally and physically to climbing Mountains.Real Soldiers are the men and women who give up their time to protect our own.The VA is filled with real Soldiers their stories and struggles are their own but their lives are our responsibility our payment for our freedom. Our support is needed for all Real Soldiers from every war, wither they be wounded mentally or physically.

PTSD and other mental issues deriving from combat experiences is a scar that wounded warriors face. However, just because some one experiences trauma (which may not be combat related) in ones life DURING combat does not entitle him to be called a wounded warrior. What he did damaged the mission at hand and did not help those others that needed his care the most. If he wants to make a difference and make up for damage he has done...by all means...do what it is he has to do. But do not be called a wounded warrior and blast dirty laundry on television to gather more donations when the title of "wounded warrior" is not rightfully his. Have a little more dignity and respect for the ones that have seen the horrors of war and suffer the emotional and physical damages from it.
